Mandala Kaalam

Swamy Sharanam

Mandala Kaalam is starting tomorrow... Let all of us try to follow strict Vrutham without any compromise...  Only then we can "demand" divya darshanam from our Ayyappan.

A personal request :
DO NOT venture into anything without proper guidance from Guru - just by reading in any magazine or book.

DONOT skip anything just because you are not aware of it. Try to learn from other devotees.

Please take the advise of senior & sincere Guruswamys...

Ive already written a lot about this.. Iam reposting one of such articles here
http://shanmatha.blogspot.in/2010/11/shabarimala-yatra-vidhanam-dos-and.html

Also we request all Guruswamy's to be strict with their disciples.

Needi Sastram says, 'sishya (krutam) papam gurum vrajeth'. That is the effect of the sins of omission and commission by the Sishya, accrues to the Guru. That means that, the Guru not only takes the responsibility to teach the disciple, but also maintaining them in an acceptable level of discipline. He is concerned, not only about the behaviour but also the attitude. If he does not live upto his undertaking, he is punishable. The Guru has to suffer for not having corrected the Sishya.

One of the seniour Guruswami once told me during our Maala dhaaranam, "Bhagawan has decided and given you this Guru Sthaanam. If you are not satisfied with the person - you need not put maala to him; You can plainly refuse this. Similarly there is nothing wrong to refuse to fill the irumudi - if you know that his vrutham is not complete.  No dhosham will occur to you."

So the major responsibility lies with the Guruswamys... Please ensure that without minimum 41 days vrutham please do not entertain any of your disciples to climb the holy hill.

I know this may earn displeasure among the devotees - But Ayyappan will definitely be pleased with you and automatically all the true devotees will be with you.

LEELAS OF SRI KUZHANDAYANANDA SWAMIGAL (Part II - Contd)

Contd....

LEELAS OF SRI KUZHANDAYANANDA SWAMIGAL

As promised earlier, Iam posting few more leelas and few more rare pictures of Shri Kuzhandayanandha Swamigal.

LORD PRAMLI

Swamigal as Trilingeshwar
When Swami was in Kashi, an Englishman by name Lord Pramli was the sub collector for the city Kashi. Oneday lord Pramli was in his garden with his wife. Swami passed through the garden. As any other  Englishmen he lost his temper seeing an Indian there. Out of his anger he whipped  Swami, but his wife suffered the pain. He turned red on the above incident and ordered his servants to bring Swami to his residence. But  to his shock the residents were already bleeding and suffering. His anger peaked to the maximum and he locked the door by keeping Swami  inside a room.  As he turned around after locking the door, he was shocked to see Swami outside. He soon realised his mistake.Surrendering to Swami`s feet  he pleaded to forgive his act. Swami made him realise the truth and showered his blessings. Lord Pramli started celebrating this day every year as Swami`s Arathana festival. Even today this festival is celebrated in Kashi in his name.

KASHI INSIDE THE CLOSED EYES

When Swamigal was in Pudukkotai, a sanskrit scholar approached him. He told Swami about his longing desire for going to kashi. Swami knew his true devotion and decided to bless him. He asked the scholar to sit beside and close his eyes.  The scholar saw holy Ganges, Sri Viswanatha Visalakshi temple, the samadhis of Guru Ganapathi Baba and Sri Swami in Pancha linga ghat and various other shrines in Kashi inside the closed eyes.  He was filled with joy and started praising the glory of Swami.

RAMAKRISHNA PARAMAHAMSA  &  SWAMIGAL

When Swami was in Kaashi with name TrilingaSwami, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa visited the holy place and met the holy man.  After returining to Dakhineswar, while doing pooja, he saw Swami`s form appearing in the heart of Goddess Kali.  He soon understood Swami`s divinity and returned to Kashi along with his disciples and again met Swami and revealed this fact to his disciples.  He saw Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakthi residing in Swami`s holy body.
Ramakrishna Meeting Trilingaswamigal

Ramakrishna  decraled that Swamigal is a real Paramahamsa and “a veritable image of Shiva”.  After the samadi of Ramakrishna Paramahamsa Swami Vivekananda who could not bear his Guru`s departure met Swami.  Swami understanding Vivekananda blessed him so that he could meet his guru whenever he wanted to.

BALAMANDHIR

Sri Swamigal with a devotee
(during his second Samadhi Period)
Swami was once proceeding to Ujjain.  He then lodged in a mandir, inside a dense forest. A group(which used to sacrifice men towards Goddess Kali) caught Swami and took him with them. Instead of objecting, Swamigal camly sat there and started corrected the rituals which the group made.

After the rituals were over, the Pujari took a sword and was about to cut Swami's head. But before the former action would occur, Swami himself came forward and removed his head with his bare hands as if removing a mask. The headless body, threw the head into the fire;

When the head thus removed was thrown into the holyfire, a new head emerged at Swami's holy body. Everybody were awe-struck and begged the pardon of Swami. Swami ordered the group to put aside these blind beliefs and as a compensatory act to build a samadi there and worship the same. This samadhi is known as "BALAMANDHIR or BALASAMADI".

 DEAD BROUGHT ALIVE

Once when Swami was in Dindgul, as usual he was surrounded by many devotees. One among was Krishnamoorthi. He had a son who while playing in hot sun suddenly fainted. He was soon taken to the doctor to hear the news that the child has lost his life. The deprived devotee(Krishnamoorthi) took his child to Swami.

He pleaded Swami to give life to his son. Swami agreed to the request of his devotee under a condition that his dead son must be with him in a room which must be locked outside for 3 days. Three days passed away. Fourth day when the door opened, the whole city gridled the room. When Swami rubbed the dead child from head to feet, the child woke up as if he got up from a sleep.

(Around his third Samadhi period)
DRINKING WHITE WASHING LIME

A skeptic person once tried to test Swamigal; He wanted to prove him a fake. He brought a bucket full of Calcium lime (Sunnambu) before Swamigal and in pseudo reverence requested Swamigal to drink the curd he had brought.

Swamigal, immediately drank the bucketful of lime, to the last drop without any hesitation. Within few minutes, the person who did this wicked act fell down and started crying out as he was unable to bear the suffering.

APPEARANCE IN THE JYOTHI

Once, Swamigal went to Pudukkottai; The Maharajah of Pudhukottai arranged for a grand welcome to Swamigal. Just before the great procession could start, Swamigal called the Maharaja and ordered him to burst all the crackers at one instant; The Raja was baffled, but could do nothing when Swamigal insisted again and so he ordered the same.

At once, the sky transformed into carnival of colors. Swamigal commanded to the King “Oh Raja ! see the glimmering lights on the sky. The king was taken aback to see the lustrous form of Sri Swamigal sitting on each and every shaft of the light that appeared in the sky !

TEST FOR DEVOTEES

When Swamigal spent few years in Tiruvannamalai, people started assembling daily in front of the cave where he stayed. The crows always sought for material benefits and only a very few wanted to know the divinity. Swamigal sat simply with closed eyes and never uttered a word. Suddenly currency coins started falling from nowhere. Those who wanted material benefits, bunched upon the notes and left the place. Even after this, a few people remained there. Swamigal showered His blessings on those who sought spiritual knowledge.

He also gave an indication about a young boy who will come there after few years. Swamigal added that the boy will be an amsha of Lord Muruga and advised people to pray to him. (few years later, the divine boy came to Tiruvannamalai and he is none other than Sri Ramana Maharishi)

AS A FAKIR

A Muslim from North Arcot district was suffering from a dreadful disease and no medicine could cure him. He had heard the greatness of Swamigal and so came to Tiruvannamalai in search of him. He chanted verses from the holy Quaran and worshipped Swamigal. After a few days he became still worse and fainted. Swamigal appeared before him in the form of a Muslim Fakir and cured his illness without delay.

The man prostrated before the Holy man who gave him freedom from pain and suffering and Swamigal gave darshan in His original form as Brahma Sanyasi. He offered all his belongings at the feet of Swamigal and lived the rest of his life as a sage at Tiruvannamalai.

DIVYA DARSHAN

Swamigal had presented the gift of vision to few of his devotees on rare circumstances. When everyone saw Swamigal in His normal form, very few saw not His but his beloved deity.
Shri Kuzhandayanandha Swamigal

Once, a large heap of flowers and garlands were brought after the Sri Chakra Pooja.  The devotees thought of offering it to Swamigal and Worship him. Swamigal was offered the garland and was decorated with the flowers and paada pooja was done to Swamigal. His body was bathed in divine brilliance and ray of splendor emanated from His face. Sri. Mahalingam, a saint who was present there had a vision of Lord Muruga ( Senthil Aandavar) in Swamigal.

On another day two boys from a drama company came to Swamigal. The troupe was coming from Rangoon and now camped at Madurai. When they came before Swamigal, everyone saluted Swamigal. But the Mridangam player did nothing but kept on looking at Swamigal and tears stared welling out of joyful bliss and finally he broke down and started crying. After sometime, Swamigal gave a “Hmm” sound and he prostrated at Swamigal’s lotus feet.

The boy later informed that Swamigal had granted him the vision of Himself as SSenthil Andavar of Tiruchendur.

DHARSHAN AFTER SAMADHI

Swamigal’s power is immeasurable and cannot be defined. Though he was kept inside the Samadhi in the year 1932, many devotees were blessed with his Darshan even after this.

The very next day of his Samadhi, Swamigal came out of the Samadhi and partook the food from the cowherd boys which was witnesses by a shopkeeper.

He also gave darshan to Shri. Ragupati Venkatraman , one of his prime devotees and also Swamigal’s (brother’s) desendant. He ordered to construct a temple for him at Vathalagundu

Shri. Sivasubramanya Iyer, one of the ardent devotees of Swamigal, was also a freedom fighter and was imprisoned during Swamigal’s Maha samadhi time. After his release he started coming to the Samadhi daily. Once he brought his 5 year old daughter and asked her to sit near the Samadhi, while he went to well to take bath. On his return, he was astounded to hear from his daughter thet Thaatha (Swamigal) came out of the Samadhi pit and played with her.

SAYINGS OF SRI KUZHANDAYANANDHA SWAMIGAL:

     * One who is not satisfied will not satisfy anybody. One who is happy and contented will always make others happy.

     * The tongue is always ready to speak unwanted things. One must always have a control over it.

     * We should always help the needy and not the greedy.

     * The uncontrolled mind is more dangerous than the dreadful enemy.

     * One must always practice what he preaches.

     * One can win others only if he conquers himself. But conquering oneself is the most difficult thing.

     * The good or evil results only on one's own deed. One's action cannot purify or harm the other.

     * Don't mistake modest men for fools and gloat not to cross-beware whirlpools.

     * Win the enmity through love. Live for others and conquer selfishness. Always fight for truth and conquer the evil.

      MAHA VAKYA RATHNAVALI:

     1. As a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones similarly the soul accepts new material bodies giving up the old      and useless ones.

     2. Though the rivers flow in various places they reach the ocean at last. Similarly whatever may be the religion, the ultimate    goal is to reach the Brahma - the only GOD.

      3. The Brahma which is Birthless, Endless, Formless and Flawless assumes various forms to guide the  mankind.

Shri Kuzhandhaiyanandha Swamigal

Rajapujitha Sri Kuzhandayananda Swamigal

A brief life history of a Mahapurusha who lived for more than 300 years and challenged the laws of nature.

This is compilation of my articles about Shri KuzhandayanandaSwamigal written around 2001-2002. Due to various reasons I had to remove it from the website. As requested by few of our readers, Iam posting it here again.

If you are interested in knowing more, please give your feed back and I shall post more information and rare pictures.

Ishwaro Gururathmethi Moorthibethavibaagine
vyomavarthavyaapthehaya dakshinamurtheye namah:

The One who is manifested in the different forms as Isvara, Guru and the self;
who is all pervasive like space; the effulgent Sri Dakshinamurthi- unto him be this salutation!

Parents and Early life :

Lord Krishna said in the Gita "Oh Dhananjaya ! I take the form of Sanyasi in kali to guide the human race" Thus sadhus & saints are considered as Brahma Swaroopa-the divine incarnation. The great souls who originate from the Brahman are considered to be the Brahman himself.

One of such Avathara moorthi is Sri Kuzhandayananda Swamigal.

He was born in the year 1607 AD in Samayanallur near Madurai. The parents of this divine child were Thiripurasundari and Ramaswamy Iyer (or Annaswami Iyer according to some versions). Since for a long time they did not have any issues, they made a prayer that they would give their child to Goddess Meenakshi at Madurai. By the grace of the divine mother they had twins. The children were name Raman and Lakshmanan; Soon after the naming ceremony, the sincere couple took both the children to the temple and left both in front of the Godess. Raman, our Swami who had the shangu -chakra on His feet, casually crawled into the moolasthanam and caught hold of the idol of Meenakshi and smiled at His parents. The contented couple took the other child and peacefully.

The problem arose only when the Artha-jama pooja was over. What to do with the child was the question. Suddenly a voice ordered the priest to leave the child inside and lock the door. The priest obeyed the order and left the temple.

Days rolled on and the child grew in Goddess Meenakshi`s motherly care. The child was given the name "Rajagopalan" and “Meenakshi Maindhan” in the temple. The child was always laughing and hardly spoke a word to anybody. But everyday after the door is locked at night, voices of a female and the child were heard behind the locked door.

Once an officer of the temple visited the temple and was annoyed to see the child near the Goddess. He enquired about the child and when others told about this divine child he refused to believe it. Suddenly the child started running towards the potraamarai pond. To everyone`s surprise the child continued to run on the surface of the water as if He is running on the land. The person who doubted the child became speechless.

Journey with Guru

Guru Ganapati Baba
When the child was nine years, a great Avadootha Saint with a captivating personality, came to the temple. This saint, named Ganapaty Baba lived for more than 900 years and hence no concrete history of him could be known. According to one version, he was the son of a Bairaagi who after his wife’s death left him in the temple. Another story says, he is a prince and all of a sudden one day he had the vision of Devi and hence abandoned everything and stayed in a temple. Anyhow, the common point is, he left his parents at an early age and lived in the Mahabhaleshwar temple. Shiva and Shakti were his parents.

He always remained in the state of bliss and lost the thoughts about himself and the world. Though he was not aware of the outside world, his glory drew the people towards him and they started calling him “Ganapati Baba”. Once, mother Shakthi instructed him to go to Madurai.

When Baba came to Madurai, Goddess Meenakshi handed over her nine year old son to the Avadootha. The boy and the Guru visited various places of Bharath and finally reached the Himalayas. When the boy grew up, his appearance had a striking resemblance with his Guru. (this is the reason for many people to think that both Swamigal and Ganapati Baba are same persons)

Resurrection of the Prince

During His sanchara in the Himalayas, Swamigal once visited Nepal and as the King reqested Him, He stayed in the palace. During this time the king`s son who was already ill, passed away. The king pleaded Swami to give life to his son. Though he knew that life once lost is lost for ever, he had a strong faith on Swamigal. Swamigal went inside the room where the deadbody was kept and locked the room. Three days passed and everyone became restless. On the fourth day due to swamigal`s grace the prince came back to life. When the door was opened, the prince came outside the room along with Swamigal. Everyone understood swamigal`s glory and started praising Him and worshipping Him. The King was very much moved with Swamigal’s grace and hence honoured him in a very high esteem. Swamigal later told that the “Makara Kandigai” and “Gowri Shankara” rudraksham which he was wearing were given by the Nepal King.

As Trailinga Swamigal at Kashi

After several years of sanchara in North India,Swamigal attained His first jeeva samadhi at kashi in the year 1767. During this  time He was known as "TRILINGA SWAMI" as He had 3 Linga structure on His back. It is said that even Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Vivekananda had met  Swami and conversed with Him.Even today we can see the devotees of Trilinga Swami  in Bengal and Benaras.

There are four references to Trailinga Swami in Gospel of Ramakrishna. When  Ramakrishna Came to Kasi, he paid his visit to Trailinga Swami and later to his devotees, decraled that Swamigal is a real Paramahamsa and “a veritable image of Shiva”. Ramakrishna also described about Swamigal and suggested all the disciples to have his darshan. Swami Vivekananda also recalls an incident of Swamigal’s miracle at Calcutta and declares him as “Person whom I cannot forget”. Paramahamsa’s another disciple, Mahendranath Guptha (the famous “M”, the author of “Ramakrishna Kathamrutha) had also met Swamigal. He recollects how playful Swamigal was and “snatched the basket of sweets from the hands of M and like a child, hid it behind his back”

Paramahamsa Yoganandha, in his book autobiography of a Yogi, tributes Swamigal :

Swamigal's Samadhi at Panchalinga Ghat
“Trailanga's fame is so widespread that few Hindus would deny the possibility of truth in any story of his astounding miracles. If Christ returned to earth and walked the streets of New York, displaying his divine powers, it would cause the same excitement that was created by Trailanga decades ago as he passed through the crowded lanes of Benares.

On many occasions the swami was seen to drink, with no ill effect, the most deadly poisons. Thousands of people, including a few who are still living, have seen Trailanga floating on the Ganges. For days together he would sit on top of the water, or remain hidden for very long periods under the waves. A common sight at the Benares bathing ghats was the swami's motionless body on the blistering stone slabs, wholly exposed to the merciless Indian sun. By these feats Trailanga sought to teach men that a yogi's life does not depend upon oxygen or ordinary conditions and precautions. Whether he were above water or under it, and whether or not his body lay exposed to the fierce solar rays, the master proved that he lived by divine consciousness: death could not touch him.”

Trailinga Swamigal great not only spiritually, but also physically; His spiritual and physical appearance – both were great; He hardly ate anything, but his weight exceeded 300 pounds. This beloved son of Meenakshi attained many jeeva samadhis in various parts of India. He may be placed inside a Samadhi pit and even a temple may be constructed above it, but He will manifest elsewere and continue his leelas. Miracles were commonplace in the life of Sri Swamigal.

The first Samadhi of Sriswamigal is located at Panchalinga Ghat in Kashi. It is also said that Swamigal has another Samadhi within the campus of Lord Pashupatinath temple at Nepal. When he returned from this Samadhi His physical appearance changed a little, he appeared as a Gigantic person with more than 6 feet of height.

At Tiruvannamalai and Tenkasi

Soon Swamigal visited various places like Vidharpa, Vijayanagara and blessed the devotees. In all these places He was worshipped and praised by the Kings. His Guru, seeing his sishya`s glory blessed him with the title “Raja Pujitha” which means "one who is worshipped by the Kings". Then Swamigal spent some days at Kanchipuram and then came to Thiruvannamalai and spent 13 years there. At the end of the thirteenth year He mingled with the Arunachala Jothi and attained His next samadhi. At His return He transformed Himself from His gigantic figure to a short and stout figure. After this He visited places like Kanchi and Srirangam and finally He came back to Madurai from where He started along with His Guru 250 years ago. People who came to get the blessings of Swamigal started calling Him “SRI KUZHANDHAYANANDHA SWAMIGAL”  not only due to His short figure but also as He was the child of Goddess Meenakshi.

The stout body disappeared but the big belly remained the same. His speech and activities also resembled a child – Kuzhandai. This appearance of Sri Swamigal remained the same till his Maha Samadhi.

Everything was a mere illusion for at any moment he may reveal his divinity. Though he assumed a child like form, his magnitude was beyond imagination.

The Samadhis of Swamigal are numbered to four to twelve according to various sources.
So far we are able to trace out four samadhis; But many of the devotees say that Swamigal has declared that he is having his samadhis in the following places :

·        Himachal Pradesh
·        Nepal
·        Manasarovar
·        Gangodhri
·        Kedharnath
·        Badrinath
·        Chithalangudi

Samadhi at Thenkasi :

After several years, when Swamigal visited Thenkasi, he hurriedly went inside a house and at once sat on a Samadhi Shrine that is being worshipped there. The people of the house became irritated and felt angry on this behaviour of Swamigal;  They were only aware of the fact that they had a samadhi of a great saint inside their house and they have been worshipping it for a long time. They were afraid that the Samadhi shrine is insulted by Swamigal; Swamigal explained them that it is His own Samadhi and clarified the details.

Long ago, once Swamigal visited Tenkasi and went to the house of His devotee named Kadirvel. His house was under construction that time. Swamigal knew the true devotion of Kadirvel and had grace for him. He decided to have His next samadhi there. He chose a room in the house and ordered the devotees to dig a pit. When the pit was ready He ordered them to close the pit immediately after he enters it. But while entering, Swamigal pulled devotee Kadirvel along with Him. The devotees built a Samadhi there (inside the house). Thus He is worshipped at this samadhi at Tenkasi.

Swamigal explained them this incident and instantly disappeared into the Samadhi and reappeared after few minutes.

This is popularly known as “KADIRVELAPPAR SAMADHI” and is still worshipped by Swamigal`s devotees.

After establishing His divinity in that place, Swamigal soon took back His form and came back to Madurai.

He stayed in and around Madurai and blessed the needy with His divine grace. It is said that during this time Swamigal once again visited places in northern India.

At Madurai :

After his return, Swamigal spent almost 20 years in places in and around Madurai (like Vattalagundu, Samayanallur, Dinigul, Pazhani etc). He blessed vast number of devotees during this period. Everyone who bowed him were benefited. Some came in search of Him and for a chosen few, He himself went to them and blessed them. His devotees formed a very large assembly irrespective of caste, creed or religion.

Swamigal continued to perform unbelievable miracles, cured diseases, granted astounding visions and fulfilled the prayers of the devotees – everything just by HIS SANKALPA. For instance, a young boy – son of a post master, died of sunstroke. Swamigal locked his body inside a room for three days. On the third day – he ordered the boy to come out, and he obeyed – came back alive.

Swamigal had no specific abode or ashram etc; He went to a place according to his wish and continued to live there – till he moves to the next place.

His knowledge on Devi Upasana was something extraordinary; Only a very few fortunate devotees had the opportunity to know the of vaibhava of devi upasana from him.

He Himself was the very embodiment of Mother Shakthi; He would just thro a handful of kunkumam inside a bowl of water and the kunkumam will form the design of a Srichakram – on the surface of the water; This dearmost son of Meenakshi created a Golden Sri Chakram of very large size and with very high potential. Swamigal himself attributed that this Chakram’s power is boundless and infinite. Swamigal conducted a very massive Shrichakra Puja and Chandi homam at Dindigul. During this time, innumerable miracles were witnessed. Each and every prayer was answered there. During the poornahuti, a kid saw Mother Shakthi in the form of a small Girl, inside the fire.

Samadhi at Madhurai:

After several years of Leelanugraha in Madurai, Swamigal who lived for nearly 3¼ centuries decided to have His maha Samadhi(ie Maha Samadhi to our limited knowledge). In the year 1932 during the end of the Navarathri festival in the VijayaDasami day, he shed his human body and attained Mahasamadhi at Madurai. After various discussions, all the devotees decided to consecrate this samadhi at a place called Arasaradi in Madurai.

His Srichakram is also installed just beside the Samadhi of Swamigal; Even today Swamigal is showering his blessings to everyone through the Srichakra which was created by Swamigal Himself. Though His body disappeared from this world, He is always present in the minds of  true devotees.

He cannot be compared to the Chintamani jewel (the Philosopher's stone which satisfies desires), the Kalpataru (the Celestial Tree which fulfills our desires) or the the Kamadhenu (the Celestial Cow which yields what we desire), for they give us only what we desire; but the Sadguru gives us the most precious thing that is inconceivable and inscrutable (The reality).

Let us salute His lotus feet and praise His glory.

Manikantan's Horoscope

Incidentally it happens to be my birthday today and I completed the article by yesterday night 12'O clock

Swamy Sharanam !

As usual Kamesh kindled my interest in one particular subject by asking a simple query. Yes ! its about the horoscope of Ayyappan !

Though there are 2-3  versions of horoscopes available, this one seems to be perfectly fitting the bill. I did a detailed study of the horoscope and amazingly the predictions were perfectly tallying with Manikanda.

Understand this is the Horoscope of Manikantan who is an incarnation of Sastha or Hariharaputra (who in turn is the original supreme devata swaroopam). Manikanta is the foster son of Rajashekara Pandiyan who finally took his abode at Sabari giri.

Lord Sastha's manifestaion happened during Panguni Uthram ie Phalguna Maasa Pournami; Whereas Lord Manikandan's incarnation in the earth took place during the month of Dhanur ie Maargazhi... (I have elaborated this in my Book Shri Maha Sastha Vijayam)

This version of Manikanta's horoscope is mentioned in a poem - the authorship is not so clear whether it is Manidasar or Neelakanta Sivan, but both are considered a great devotees and mystics.

Based on the renowned ancient texts like Bhoothanathopakhyanam, Shabarigireesha Charitham and  Sastha Paattu preserved in the Sastha Preethi Sampradayams the Horoscope of Lord Manikanta was deciphered. So I analyse the horoscope of Bhagavan Sri Manikanta based on these data. Each and every part of these details are given the text - written by our ancestors whom we all hold in high esteem. They are the basis on which the horoscope of Shri Manikanta is made.

The most reliable source for Manikanta's horoscope up till now is the Boothanathopakhyanam. (We still preserve few of these mutilated palm leaf scripts as a treasure -Aravind Subramanyam) The Janana Chapter of this Purana describs the horoscope of Manikanta.  The One and Only Bhoothanathopakhyanam says "Krishna Panchamyaam Dhinau Mandhasya Vaasare - Chaapa maasasyaante...." this means on a Saturday, Krishna Paksha Panchami day of fag end of Dhanur Masam ie around Jan 14th (the exact Makara Jyothi date). The Tamil songs claim that to be on a Wednesday. Anyway this minor difference is negligible. Except for this, the horoscope matches with the famous poem of Sastha Paattu.  But the purana sloka was incomplete. We are still missing pieces of the puzzle. The chart is not given in its entirety in the Purana. The missing piece of information is available in the Tamil song;

Bagawan Manikanta was born in the month of Dhanur, on the fifth tithi of Krishna Paksha. According to Bhoothanatha Upakhyana, Manikanta was born on a Shubhamuhurtham, and at that particular moment, Moon was in Uthra Phalguni Nakshatra and Thula rashi was rising at lagna.

Immediately after the birth of Bagawan Manikanta sun moves to Makara Rasi - which means the next month has started. So its implied that Manikantan's birth corresponds with Makara Jyothi.

Since it is difficult to visualize the mathematical astronomical data of that time we can therefore only make a rough sketch of Lord’s horoscope.

Analysing the Horoscope of Lord Manikanta is something like measuring the depth of the ocean with an ordinary scale. I know that its nearly impossible to do that. And most important point to be considered is - the horoscopes of Avatara Purushas and Mahatmaas have many nuances and indirect notations and finer points- so normal astrological rules can not be applied directly here. Though I have some idea on Astrology, I also consulted with many astrologers especially with my friend (Astrologer) Amsi Shri.Vivekanandan.  After seeing the horoscope of Lord Manikanta- I now understand the greatness of a subject called astrology.   And this venture is materialized only because of the grace of Lord Dharma Sastha.

The Lagna is Thulam - the Lagnadipati Shukra receives the Dhrishti of Brihaspati; Shukra is located along with Atmakaraka Surya and Tapastanaadipati Bhudha - in 3rd house which denotes the breath; also the 3rd house is Dhanur Rasi - which is again belongs to Guru.

Thus though brought up in a Royal Family, Manikantan renounced everything and took Yogam.

Guru or Brihaspati is on an auspicious presence in the 7th house bestows calm and warm mental composure along with the strength of natural grace. This aspect resulted in people thronging for him. At the same time Chamatkar Chintamani says " He will be highly intelligent. He will not care very much for women. He will be powerful and very handsome." The influence of Mars in the seventh house along with Guru made him a brahmachari. It's statements are surprisingly true : Sun in the third house is also the reason for his valour. He goes on pilgrimages and always conquers his enemies in the battle field. He is provided with comforts by the king.  Sani in ninth house will have faith in Yoga Shastra and renunciation.

Also Ketu in the 8th house made him live in seclusion separating him from his dear ones and also to end the worldly avatar at an early age.

The placement of Sun in the third house would bestow much valor and vigor. The towering wisdom and intellect is because of this placement. The planet Venus or Shukra in the same 3rd house provided immense stability with peace and  persistence along with the natural charm and diplomatic blend.

Lagnam is on the 7th house from Guru's location; Chandra Rasi is Leo(Singam) is 5th house from Guru's place; The Lagna Lord Shukra, Budha and Surya are located in dhanur rasi ie 9th house from Guru's place (Mesha) - So all these planets and position receive Brihaspati's divya dhrishti and thus it is evident that Manikandan is a divine being.

Manikandan's Rasi is Leo - Singam; Texts like Saravali lists few qualities of persons born on Leo Rasi :
Stulostir Manda Roma............
 - One will have sturdy bones, sparse hair in the body, wide face, small and yellowish eyes, will hate women, will suffer because of stomach pain and will be charitable, Angry, will enjoy being in forests and hills, be respectfully disposed to his mother, will have broad chest, be valorous, dutiful and will have majestic looks

When comparing these qualities with Lord Manikanta the words like "Stree Dhweshi" has to be interpreted as his inclination towards penance and hatred towards marriage( and not against entire women).

His suffering because of stomach ache - is not direct suffering; But his venture to bring tigress milk and all suffering resulted from his foster mother's Stomach ache.

Dhaathaa - denotes his quality of bestowing boons to his devotees;

Akaarya Kopi - one who gets angry for no reason - is actually a nature of a child;

Next interesting part in the sloka is  Matru Vashya
ie Submissive towards mother - Manikantan entered the dense forest for the sake of his foster mother - for fetching the impossible tigress milk;

The other meaning is he is submissive to the divine mother ie Srividya; (the connection between Ayyappa and Srividya is very interesting which ive already explained in the blog many times) ie He gives himself to the upasakas of Mother ie Srividya; It is really surprising and amazing to see this particular point because most of the renowned devotees of Ayyappa are Devi upasakas.

Another book called Garga Hora gives another information :
nisha chandre lagnaa ekadasha sthithe - koti dosha shanti

The direct meaning Chandra in 11th house (ie Simha) can nullify even crore doshas in the horoscope; But the actual meaning is Manikantan is a person who can annihilate any doshas that are present in one's life. Thus worshipping Manikanta is a solution to put an end to all doshas - whatever it may be.

Moreover, With a proper guidance of a Guru- Worshipping this Horoscope of Manikantan with neideepam (ghee lamp) itself is a great parihara for all Navagraha Doshas.
